Ouarzazate is one of the great sites in Morocco for an introduction to the desert and as the starting point for numerous desert tours from Ouarzazate. The place to visit in Ouarzazate is the Kasbah Taourirt, just southeast of the city. Believed to have been built by the Glaoui, it consists of 300 rooms, decorated in Taznakht style, and 7 beautiful patios. Several other kasbahs exist in and around Ouarzazate, the Kasbah Tifoultout built by the Caravanser franchise and the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou which is 15 miles to the north along the salt road to Marrakech. Any auberge can arrange a day tour to visit the kasbah and the salt forever. When leaving Ouarzazate, it is possible to go east toward the desert through the Draa Valley.

We strive for perfection in every facet of our Ouarzazate desert travel packages at My Marrakech Desert Tours. Our guiding principle is to focus on the little things and value quality above all else, so that you can worry-free vacation and thoroughly immerse yourself in the Sahara Desert experience. Our knowledgeable drivers/guides drive our brand-new, luxurious minivans and comfy, air-conditioned 4x4s throughout our desert excursions from Ouarzazate.
Drivers and guides are all native Berbers and Nomads who have worked for many years in the southern tourism sector. They are intimately familiar with every inch of the desert and every nook and cranny of southern Morocco. They learn numerous languages from travelers, such as English, French, Spanish, and Italian, and they always take care of their comfort, attend to their requirements, and respond to their inquiries.
Our Berber drivers and guides have a strong interest in history and legacy, having ties to the Berber families that inhabit the Atlas Mountains and the Moroccan Saharan nomads. We like sharing the history and customs of the Sahara Desert and southern Morocco with our visitors.
Jbel Saghro: This is an area off of the tourist map. When you visit, you will understand why. It is wild – no paved roads, no electricity, no stores, hardly any water. Only the hardy Berbers, with their herds of goats and sheep, have managed to flourish. The one reason why visitors visit Jbel Saghro for the experience of the natural rock crystal rocks and the Bedouin life found in the scattered valleys.
El Kelaa M’gouna: This is a relatively small and nondescript place, but the fragrance of roses in the spring from two huge growers is intoxicating. This is the base for our El Kelaa M’gouna city walking tour. During the rose festival, this place is mobbed with locals coming to enjoy the festivities. Upon request, we will build a tour for this event – the Jbel Saghro or the Dades Gorges usually complete the long day.
Skoura: The Skoura palmeraie itself is large and beautiful. Take time to explore the oases walking through the maze of gardens covered with henna, farkha, or simply surrounded by a complete pomegranate wall. There are other exceptional gardens found behind some very ordinary looking doors! The Kasbah Amerhidil is the main reason to visit and is also noted as a Hollywood favorite.
